Langston Hughes ,Countee Cullen,Claude McKay"Harlem Renaissance"


The Harlem Renaissance is about the study of African-American life and culture. They tell how hard it is for African Americans during this period .The Harlem Renaissance was mostly a literary . The movement impacted urban centers throughout the United States. Across the cultural spectrum and also in the of social thought artists and found new ways to explore the historical experiences of black America and the contemporary experiences of black life in the urban North.

The Harlem Renaissance is apart of social justice because they are apart of a movement showing how important African Americans are when nobody nobody wlse did.Back then African Americans were known as nothing but niggers.You were to spaek to every white man or woman as mam or sir.But they created an opportunity for black people to be more than that .

Sandra Cisneros"From Straw To Gold"


The story "From Straw To Gold" is about how Cisneros was the only girl of six brothers.She was also Mexican.As a child she moved around alot .But as a child her mother cooked alot .They were expected to know how to cook because they were Mexican.She felt like the woman from in the fairy tale who was locked in a roomand ordered to spin star to gold whenshe was required to wrte a critical essay for her MFA exam.She left any of her brothers did.She was never a bright student in school.She got straight C's and D's on her report card.So nobody thought she would make it.

Cisneros is apart of social justice because On July 29-30 and Aug. 1, a group of writers and artists that calls itself the Macondo Foundation, headed by author Sandra Cisneors, will present Macondo Libre. It’s an event that allows writers and artists to share their work about social change and justice.

Connections:I can relate to Sandra Cisneros because she moved around alot and I do to so you never get too comfortable.

Lorraine Hansberry "A Raisin In the Sun"


In the book A Raisin In The Sun is about a poor family who is trying to make it.The family lives in a cramped two bed room apartment with five people.The father has died and has left ten thousand dollars.The family dosen't know whether they should give it to Walter to invest in a store or just save it up.But ,in the end they decide to give the money to Walter.Walter invests the moneyin the store but a man ends up running off with his money.

Lorraine Hansberry has been apart of many social justice movements.Hansberry's interest in global issues, especially concerning Africa, also began at an early age. Lorraine Hansberrys life was dedicated to social justice. While attending the University of Wisconsin, Lorraine joined the Young Progressives of America and the Labor Youth League. These were organizations that fought for world peace and racial equality. Hansberry also studied African Culture and History with W.E.B. DuBois at the Jefferson School for Social Sciences in New York.

connection:I can relate to this story when Benetha wanted to be a doctor and nobody wanted to really belive she was going to be a doctor so she had to belive in herself.I want to be a Vetranerian nobody belives in me so I am going to belive in myself and still persue it.

Rita Dove "For The Love Of Books"




"For the Love of books" by Rita Dove .It is about Rita Dove and how she loves books as a child.In school she was very quiet.She loved books so much she could gaze at a book while closed and think of all the possibilities the book could hold.One day her teacher took her to a book signing which really made her think.Rita Dove decided that she was going to persue her love of books.


Rita Dove is apart of social justice because she has been described as a quiet leader and as an artist who of African-American experiences. Dove's lyrical and accessible poetry reflects the author's interest in music and drama .She also has her sensitivity to women's issues.She stands as a socialist for women and African Americans.

connection:I can relate to Rita Dove and her love of books because I also love books .

Maya Angelou-Still I Rise


Maya angelou wrote the poem "Still I Rise" .Speakin on how you may treat her like nothing but a peice of dirt but she still is going to Rise above it.She has has so many tramatic experiences in her life time such as being rapped by her mothers boyfriend.Angelou is spaeking out to the world saying she can over come anything coming her way.

Maya Angelou is apart of social justice. She was also at the event when , the Linda Allred Profiles in Leadership Award will be announced. The award is for outstanding women whose leadership roles have made a significant impact on the ECU community. She is a great speaker and and educator. She is idolized everywhere.

Connection:I can relate to Maya Angelou because she has rose above all the terrible things in her life I too

Amy Tan "Mother Tounge"




Amy Tan was a woman who moved around alot as a child .She learned broken English.Her mother embarassed her when she spoke beause she also spoke unproper English.Amy tried to take classes to improve but she couldn't .But eventually she got better at it because she practiced and got better.

Amy Tan is apart of social justice because she and her mother are treated unfairly.They were thought to be worthless just because they cannot speak clearly and are from a different country.Amy has tried to take several classes but for some reason she couldn't.She is Asian so she is thought to be good at Science and Math.But in the end she became a famous writer and didn't care about those troubles any more and proved herself to eveyone.


Connection:I can relate to Amy Tan because when you are a certain race you get treated a certain way .

Barak Obama "Dreams Of My Father"


In the auto biography of Barak Obama "Dreams Of My Father " Barak speaks on all his life experiences.He moved around alot and his father was never in his life .He struggled with peer presure alot.Barak became a drug attic .He was headed down the wrong path until he hit rock bottom.He started to go back to school and down the right path.Now he is the president the of United States of America.


Barak Obama-Dreams of my father :he is apart of social justice because he is in the political party.He is now president of the United States and plans to change our economy.Barak is currently trying to get stimulance checks,and a help the people who are low on payment . He is trying to make a change in society.He became president to make change.

Connection:when he was a teen he was headed down the wrong path until he hit rock bottom.I was also going down the wrong path in life until a terrible experience happend to me in my life which made me decide to wake up
